Hey guys.
Been forever since I've been here at the Database, but chances are you have no idea who I am. Well that's cool because I was only here to upload some sprites I was ripping for a webcomic, which I am no longer working on. Lots of things happened in my life and the sprite comic had to go. Instead, I decided to make a fan game. I want to make a Treasure fan game where I take all of Treasure's characters and have them fight in a Smash Bros. style arena. Right now I'm at the stage where I'm drawing sprites and I haven't drawn sprites in years. At least not in the traditional pixel by pixel sense. Regardless, I could use some critique to see if they look good, so C&C is welcomed.
So the first char I'm working on is Red from Gunstar Heroes. This is what I came up with.
And I created two strips of him walking and running.
Now I'm going to be honest here. I want to make this game as fast as possible, and as fast as I am programming, art is cumbersome when it comes to drawing it ASAP with the walking and running animations clocking in at 3:42:33 (I used a stopwatch) and I have a LOT of sprites to get through. Because of that I'm taking shortcuts such as reusing some assets like, as you can notice, the head is the same for all these as I figure no one is really going to notice that as well as the body for the walk animation. Also I used the original sprite as a basis to speed things up. While the walking animation is originally mine as that animation does not exists in the original game, the running animation does come from the original game, albeit a few frames less I believe.
So with that said, what do you guys think? What do you believe I can do to improve it. Or are they good as they are?
